The AT&T Preforming Arts Center

The Winspear Opera House
Wonderful lunch.

I was so graciously invited to go to a wonderful luncheon at the PNC Lounge in The Winspear Opera House in Dallas. It was to launch the Family Entertainment Series at the non profit AT&T Preforming Arts Center sponsored by Children’s Health with a special guest, which I was pretty excited about seeing who it was. My business partner Aunt Glenda and Juanita joined me today along with Charlie (Aunt Glenda’s son) I was happy we were all able to make it.

Cheers with Juanita.
Charlie and Glenda

We started off by eating lunch and talking to each other while enjoying champagne. We enjoyed a nice salad with Chicken and some roasted vegetables and a side of mashed potatoes. The dessert was a strawberry shortcake with shaved white chocolate.

The lunch spread.

Then after we were done eating the President and CEO Debbie Storey started off by thanking us and talking about what was to come which she said “We’ve curated our programming with our community in mind, including more opportunities for families to experience live performances here together” Which I was super excited about since I have 2 little ones and it is hard for me and husband to find things to do with the kids. She said they were coming out with 5 new performances around families. Also two of the shows will be priced at $10 a person so super affordable for bigger familes.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical (two shows)

Sunday, December 15, 2019 – 1 p.m. & 5 p.m.

Winspear Opera House

In 1964, the beloved stop-motion animated television classic, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, made its network television debut and has been delighting audiences across the country for over 50 years. “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical is a wonderful new way to experience this family tradition,” says producing partner Jonathan Flom. The national tour is a family favorite — a “holiday staple” (The Boston Globe) and an “utterly charming, top-notch production” (Orlando Sentinel)

Projections, costumes and characters are faithfully brought to the stage against a backdrop of nostalgic set designs. The 12-foot-plus-tall Abominable Snow Monster is jaw-dropping. The cast brings high energy to classic songs and dialogue, while irresistible and loveable puppets highlight the charming “roughness” from the television show’s stop-motion effects.

Tuesday, February 4 – 10:30 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.

Wyly Theatre

So much science, so little time. . . Doktor Kaboom is having trouble picking his favorite science demonstrations, so he’s bringing them all! Unfortunately there are way too many to do them all in one show. The solution: The Wheel of Science! Doktor Kaboom has built a great big spinning wheel and labeled it with everything from optical illusions to chemical reactions to a homemade hovercraft, and more! At least a dozen fantastic demonstrations ready to go. Wherever the wheel stops, that’s what’s next! Will we turn a water bottle into a rocket or catapult bananas across the stage? Electrocute a pickle or create artificial gravity? Who knows? No two shows will be the same. So, step right up, and let’s spin that wheel!

The-Ugly-Duckling-POSTER1000X553.jpg

Lightwire Theater’s The Ugly Duckling (one show)

Sunday, March 1, 2020 – 2 p.m.

Winspear Opera House

Lightwire Theater brings a classic tale to the modern stage in an unforgettable theatrical experience. Lined with electroluminescent wire, the beloved story of The Ugly Duckling plays out on stage through a cutting-edge blend of puppetry, technology and dance.

With dazzling visuals, poignant choreography and the creative use of music ranging from classical to pop, this production brings this story into a new and brilliant light.

The Family Entertainment series will be performed on the campus of the AT&T Performing Arts Center, in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House and the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, in the downtown Dallas Arts District.

When she was done releasing the information on the performances. We got to see out special guest and it was Doctor Kaboom himself! He should us some awesome things from his show and Charlie got to be his helper. He was very funny and energetic and I can’t wait to take the kids to his show!

Pluckers for Lily’s Birthday

Super behind on post’s I got sick so now I’m playing catch up. So here is our experience at Pluckers.

We decided to go to Pluckers for Lily’s birthday because she had a free Kid’s meal with my pluckers reward card. We go every year since I’ve gotten the card. So we decided to ask Charlie, Uncle David and Aunt Glenda to join us in the festivities. This was their first time visiting and they were excited and Mimi of course!

The whole family.

David T. (My husband) I know its confusing with the two David’s. Well me and David T went to Walmart after I picked him up from work. Got some cute little cupcakes that were at the bakery. We asked them if we could buy some cupcake toppers. They had lots of cute options but we settled for My little Pony because she loves that show! Her Favorite is Twilight Sparkle.

The Birthday Girl excited about her cupcakes!

So we all got there it and let me tell you there was a long wait! At first we were like upset. But then we asked why and realized of course there was a long wait it was 50 cent wing night. I was impressed because that is a great deal and their wings are fairly large.

My wings Spicy lemon pepper and Garlic Parmesan.

We finally got our table and we ordered our usual which mine is 10 bone in wings split with Garlic Parmesan and Spicy Lemon Pepper sometimes I get the Vampire Killer. But I wasn’t feeling super spicy today I also got a side of Waffle Fries. My hubby got Dr. Pepper BBQ and Cajun with Waffle fries. The kids got Buffalo Bites with no sauce and fries.

Boneless BBQ and Waffle Fries this was Mimi’s meal.

Glenda got a chicken salad and David and Charlie shared Teriyaki bone in wings with fries. Debbie got boneless Dr. Pepper wings and fries. The food was absolutely fantastic It was hot and the waiter was very attentive and made our night great. We were celebrating three birthdays that night. Mine July 23rd, Uncle David July 26, Lily’s was today July 29th.

Uncle David preparing to Dance.
Lily chicken dance.

We had to do a chicken dance with menu’s and paper cups. Lily really enjoyed that part I couldn’t stop laughing. Embarassing but worth it for my baby girl. She told me she can’t wait till next year when we can do the chicken dance together again.

I had to join in the Birthday Chicken dance.
Her Twilight Sparkle Cupcake.

We ended dinner with just us singing Happy Birthday to her. She loved her cupcakes and we even shared a few with the waiter. We had some leftover ones and shared them with a nice family nearby for their daughters. Overall it was a successful Birthday Dinner for my little Girl. She is Officially 4 years old and I can’t wait till tomorrow when we go to Kid Mania in Presidio Junction for a little Birthday Party.

Someone loves her cupcakes from Walmart.
Happy Birthday Lily!

ONE CHILD NATION

Opens in Dallas on August 16

Directed & Produced by: Nanfu Wang & Jialing Zhang
Synopsis: China’s One Child Policy, the extreme population control measure that made it illegal for couples to have more than one child, may have ended in 2015, but the process of dealing with the trauma of its brutal enforcement is only just beginning. From award-winning documentarian Nanfu Wang (Hooligan Sparrow, I Am Another You) and Jialing Zhang, the sweeping One Child Nation explores the ripple effect of this devastating social experiment, uncovering one shocking human rights violation after another – from abandoned newborns, to forced sterilizations and abortions, and government abductions. Wang digs fearlessly into her own personal life, weaving her experience as a new mother and the firsthand accounts of her family members into archival propaganda material and testimony from victims and perpetrators alike, yielding a revelatory and essential record of this chilling, unprecedented moment in human civilization.
One Child Nation is a stunning, nuanced indictment of the mindset that prioritizes national agenda over human life, and serves as a first-of-its-kind oral history of this collective tragedy – bearing witness to the truth as China has already begun to erase the horrors of its “population war” from public record and memory.

Angry Birds 2-Movie Premiere

Alamo Drafthouse Lake Highlands
Trailer for the movie.

So we were highly blessed to be invited to the Angry Birds 2 movie premiere at The Lake Highlands Alamo Drafthouse. Lily and Jason were going to go but they ended up going to Oklahoma with their Mimi to visit their Papa. Before school and before he has a very important and serious surgery. So they missed the movie this time but we will be definitely taking them to see it in theaters.

David and I in front of pride rock.
Walking in the the theater!

We were so happy that Aunt Glenda, Charlie and Uncle David were able to make it as well they let us know they were having a family day. We weren’t sitting together but maybe next time we will have seats next to each other.

Cute masks and stress balls for the movie.

David and I absolutely had a blast at the premiere they had these cute masks for everyone and these little water stress balls that had the Angry Birds logo on it. Before the movie started we ordered chicken strips with the hatch chile gravy and added ketchup and ranch on the side for the fries. My husband and I absolutely loved the food and the gravy was to die for! A little spicy for some people but the perfect amount of heat for us. We also ordered chocolate chip cookies with Ice cream. I’ve had it before at the MIB International VIP Party so I just had to order it again and David trusted my choice and ordered one for himself because I told him those cookies were baked fresh and that’s the best way to eat them. He really liked them and said he will be ordering it next time for him and the kids to share.

Right when the movie started the short film was cute and made me emotional mainly because it had to do with a daughter and parents. But I wont say details I just really thought it was cute.

So we ended up making it a date day movie and had a great time. The movie was so funny and full of surprises and the music was fantastic. I really wanted to get up and dance to the music. My husband was laughing almost every second and the story really had a good learning moment about real life situations. Which was nice. I highly recommend this movie because I believe it is for all ages.

Vetted Well Bar

After the movie we checked out the Vetted Well area and liked how it had board games available for when your hanging out with your family or friends. We definitely want to come back with some friends and make it a cool hangout area before and after the movie for a few drinks and some food.

E.T. says order a beer flight!
Board games
Nice and clean bar.
Happy Hour before 6 p.m.

It was the first time my husband and I have been to The Lake Highlands Alamo Drafthouse location and let me tell you we will be back! It was very clean and the staff was amazing. Highly recommend checking it out!

Scary Stories to tell in the Dark Posters.

We also got some free posters on the way out for Scary Stories to tell in the Dark. I really want to go see that movie next. I don’t watch scary movies much but I read the books as a child and would love to see it at Alamo Drafthouse.

What movie are you most excited to see? Let me know in the comments below.
